This machete from Snake Eye Tactical\u2026 not so much.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s frustrating is that this one isn\u2019t a total loss. The Snake Eye Machete has enough positive attributes that I can\u2019t write it off completely, but its flaws are so obvious that I also can\u2019t help but be disappointed by class=\"wp-block-heading\">Snake Eye Machete: First Impressions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I really like the look of this Snake Eye Machete. It has a <strong>somewhat kukri-like curvature to the blade, <\/strong>but is also <strong>a bit thinner and lither <\/strong>than a true kukri, so I was excited to try it out. The <strong>shape reminds me quite a bit of the Schrade Priscilla Brush Sword, albeit a scaled-down version.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a <strong>handsome machete<\/strong>, and it\u2019s <strong>sharp <\/strong>right out of the box too, which is something I always appreciate. It\u2019s not exactly shaving sharp, but honestly <strong>sharper than most machetes<\/strong> when I first get them. It came with a little<strong> \u201cmade in China\u201d sticker<\/strong> on the blade that was impossible to get off without leaving <strong>sticky residue,<\/strong> which in retrospect, should have been the<strong> first red flag.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s also something about it that just doesn\u2019t feel right in my hands, and it\u2019s hard to explain exactly why. It\u2019s a <strong>full tang<\/strong> and weighs<strong> 16 ounces.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The steel used to make the blade is <strong>440 stainless,<\/strong> and it has a <strong>black matte anti-rust protective coating. <\/strong>It\u2019s advertised as having a n<strong>atural wood handle,<\/strong> but I\u2019m pretty sure the \u201cwood\u201d is actually some sort of composite. The spine of the blade curves downward toward both the tip of the blade and the butt end of the handle\u2014only a short section of the spine near the middle is truly straight\u2014giving it a <strong>drop-point appearance.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This machete has a saber grind, which is generally good for <strong>strength and chopping power.<\/strong> In this specific case, that\u2019s likely a good call, as the blade is not as broad as a typical kukri, especially at the back end near the handle. The Snake Eye also seems to be <strong>contoured along the front top of the blade<\/strong> in a way that<strong> resembles a false edge grind.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The blade is also not quite as deeply recurved as most kukri-type blades. Remember how I said upfront that this machete just doesn\u2019t \u201cfeel\u201d right in my hands? AND <strong>the screws that hold the scales in place aren\u2019t tight enough,<\/strong> so there\u2019s a fair amount of play in the handle. Even by that standard,<strong> this one is pretty bad.<\/strong> Again, it\u2019s supposedly leather, but is <strong>clearly a fake-leather layer glued to a plastic layer.<\/strong> I\u2019ve barely touched mine, and <strong>the glue is so weak<\/strong> that the layers are already <strong>peeling apart.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The machete rests loosely in the sheath,<\/strong> which has a couple of snaps to hold it more-or-less in place. The only salvageable part of this, for me, is the blade itself, which might perform better with a decent handle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And sure, you could remove the scales and replace them with something better, but is a budget-friendly blade like this one really worth that kind of extra effort? The Snake Eye goes for around $<strong>35 on Amazon,<\/strong> and for that price you could pick up a far-superior <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/WEYLAND-Kukri-Machete-Sheath-Machetes\/dp\/B092783C9T\/\">Weyland Kukri<\/a>. Or save up a few extra bucks and get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/CRKT-KUK-Fixed-Blade-Knife\/dp\/B0768S7L7Z\">CRKT Kuk<\/a> instead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My point is, <strong>THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS OUT THERE. <\/strong>I understand that you get what you pay for, and I don\u2019t expect the world\u2019s best machete at this price point.
