Why did I decide to do this? Who knows. Do I regret it? I think I knew that before I bought it, but I was still surprised by how small this knife is. It has a <strong>long, thin handle<\/strong> though, so it fits in my hand well and locks right in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t know a thing about the Itokey brand, other than that they\u2019re <strong>made in China<\/strong>. Their Amazon store includes a handful of other knives and gadgets, mostly aimed at the tactical \/ novelty \/ Father\u2019s Day gift market. They\u2019re all pretty cheap.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official description of this particular knife includes a rather broad range of keywords designed to make it seem like a knife for every conceivable purpose (Tactical! Cool Belt Knife! Survival! Outdoor! Camping! It\u2019s a trailing point blade with a<strong> curved cutting edge and an upswept spine<\/strong> that culminates in a very fine point. The thickness of the blade also decreases gradually from about <strong>3 mm<\/strong> at the handle down to nothing at the tip.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grind of the edge looks to me like a full flat <strong>grind with a flat secondary bevel<\/strong>. Again, everything about it suggests that it\u2019s made for piercing. I don\u2019t know what kind of steel this is made of. They say it\u2019s D2, but based purely on edge retention, I have some serious doubts about that. I know that there are a lot of problems with off-brand Chinese knives not being made out of what they say they are, and I have a feeling that\u2019s the case here.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, I didn\u2019t send it to a lab or anything. It\u2019s <strong>quite narrow<\/strong> and gets lost in one\u2019s palm a bit, but as long as you\u2019re not someone with huge hands, it should be fairly easy to get a <strong>good, comfortable, safe grip<\/strong> on it. The <strong>G10 <\/strong>scales are smooth and don\u2019t add much in the way of grip texture, but there\u2019s some good thumb jimping on the spine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The handle has a <strong>finger hole<\/strong> at the rear end, and if you use it then there\u2019s essentially no chance of losing your grip or dropping the knife. The hole would go around your pinky with a standard grip, or index finger with a reverse grip. It\u2019s a<strong> basic black plastic Kydex<\/strong> kind of deal, which I\u2019m not always a huge fan of in general, but it does the job. I will grant that it holds the blade quite firmly, and it has a <strong>clip <\/strong>that works better than I expected it to.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sheath comes equipped with what is essentially an <strong>Ulticlip copycat, <\/strong>and it works especially well for pocket carry (the sheath is just the right size for that weird little pocket inside the main pocket of my jeans). <strong>It works pretty well for belt or boot carry too,<\/strong> so you have options. Not the best, not the worst.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing about this knife is especially noteworthy or impressive, not that I would expect it to be for <strong>$20<\/strong>. It\u2019s basically designed to look dangerous to a would-be attacker, or to get an attacker off of you if necessary, and I can\u2019t say it wouldn\u2019t do the job.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That being said, I have no confidence in this brand, and I\u2019m pretty sure this is one of those situations where the same cheap-o mass-produced knife is sold by different brands under different names.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A quick scan of Amazon turned up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B09B1VS9WJ\/?th=1\">this knife from Ccanku<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B09B1VS9WJ\/?th=1\">this one from Masalong<\/a>, which are completely identical. The Masalong version is listed as being made of 5Cr15MoV stainless steel, which makes me even more suspicious of the Itokey knife\u2019s composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might decide to buy one of these anyway if that doesn\u2019t really matter to you. It\u2019s kind of like buying a knife at a gas station, right? You know it\u2019s going to be junk, but If you want a self-defense knife that you\u2019ll carry often but hopefully never have to actually use, then I suppose the edge retention doesn\u2019t <em>really<\/em> matter all that much.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s all well and good, but I\u2019ll always be an advocate for saving up a few extra bucks and getting something good rather than something cheap. And you know what? I resent that Amazon is so clogged up with this nonsense that it\u2019s hard to actually find the good stuff.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Anyway, it\u2019s a perfectly mediocre knife at an affordable price.
