RIDGE 34 reviews

Athens Archery has been innovating since day one and seeks to create a line of bows that offers uncompromised performance in a package that is forgiving to even the newest archers. In their latest Athens Ridge 34 compound bow, they have bridged the gap between power and comfort to create an excellent bow.

Things to consider before buying

The Athens Ridge 34 is an excellent bow that can provide immense value to any archer. The bow shoots at a very respectable 335 fps which allows it to hit hard enough to take care of any animal or target. The Ridge’s split limb design pairs well with the new MT cam system that allows the Ridge 34 to provide enough power for hunting, without the added burden of a heavy and cumbersome draw.

For the archer who cares about the finer things in life, the Athens Ridge comes standard with GAS Premium High Octane strings. These strings are some of the nicest in the industry and play well with the ridge to create a smooth and concise draw. The technology and comfort of the Ridge 34 make it a clear competitor for any archer’s shopping list, leaving you to only pick which color you want in before picking one up.

Who should buy it?

The overall design and usability of the Ridge 34 means that this bow is suitable for most intermediate archers. It provides all the power and speed a hunter or target archer would need to consistently and efficiently hit those fatal shots. Even the pro-archer could find a nice relief with the Ridge 34, thanks to its well-regarded smoothness and high-quality components that allow you to order your bow and head to the range without any fuss.

Who shouldn’t buy it?

The Athens Ridge 34 is a great option for most archers, but there are a few customers who it may not be the right bow for yet. The Ridge 34 has quite a bit of power and weight which makes the bow less than ideal for a beginner or young archer. The Ridge is built with more experienced archers in mind and may not be the easiest to use for an archer with a small frame or lack of experience with powerful bows.

Pros

  • The Ridge 34 comes with GAS Premium strings for smooth and durable shooting
  • The 335 FPS shooting speed is more than enough for most hunting and shooting
  • Split limbs mean a smoother and more consistent draw

Cons

  • The price is higher than some other bows of similar specifications
  • The 34-inch size could make this bow unwieldy for smaller framed archers

Final Thoughts

The Athens Ridge 34 is everything a bow hunter needs without any of the complicated jargon or features they don’t want to deal with. A powerful yet pricey bow that is built with high quality materials makes for a diverse and well-rounded package that would be at home on any hunt.

The Athens Ridge 34 Compound Bow is a unique and effective bow for the hunter who wants to practice distance shooting. The bow is made in Germany by the Holosun Company, which has been making bows for over three decades. The bow was originally designed as a straight pull. That was before Thomas Coleman invented a method of making the bow do what a typical draw would do. He fixed a string at the top of the bow which could be pulled when the bow is drawn to make the arrow fly the furthest distance. Since then, the bow has become a highly sought after bow.

The base of the bow is metal with the top being a wood, fiberglass or composite. It is not hard to adjust for different shots, but does not shoot as straight as a traditional compound bow. Even with the adjustable arm it is not as sharp as a bow you would get at the range. It is designed with a compound draw that allows the bow to do what it is supposed to do. While on a windy day the arrow will fly further. Even though you can adjust the string to shoot more or less, this does not mean the bow will handle the same on a good day or bad. At the end of the day when you have taken your shot the bow is going to shoot the same so just adjust it.

There are two different types of draw speed that the bow can take. A fast draw allows you to control the shot by moving your arm and using your hands to cock the arrow. You can adjust the string to give it the shot you want it to take. While on a windy day the arrow will shoot farther. At the end of the day when you have taken your shot the bow is going to shoot the same so just adjust it.
