Apprentice 3 reviews

The Bear Apprentice 3 is another good choice to consider for a child who still has a lot of growing to do, technically and physically. The Apprentice 2 was a bit limited on draw weight and length, but Bear Archery has improved on it with this model.

Let’s see what the Bear Apprentice 3 has to offer you!

Things to consider before buying

If you have already used Apprentice 2, then getting along with the Bear Apprentice 3 won’t be an issue at all. There are many similarities between these two models but with Apprentice 3, Bear Archery has improved on the drawing weight and length. The company has also tweaked some other minor attributes.

The Upgrade

The Apprentice 3 allows you to make adjustments to the draw length in 0.5-inch increments, whereas the Apprentice 2 allows only 1-inch increments. The design of the grip has slightly changed in Apprentice 3 as well, for reducing hand torque.

There is a new string suppressor in the later model too, and you’ll find a string stop added as well. I love the fact that the Apprentice 3 is available in weight ranges of 15 to 50 lbs and 20 to 60 lbs. The more recent model is a lot more modern looking than the previous one, with a tubular or rounded look.

Finish

There are a couple of color choices available. You can either go for a “Pink Camo” or “Realtree APG”. Both these colors are great and will satisfy most kids. Both these colors come with a flat matte finish.

Limbs and riser

With an axel to axel length of 27.5-inches, this bow is suitable for kids of different heights. The weight of the Apprentice 3 is only 2.9 lbs, but you can always add more weight if you want to stabilize the bow.

The limbs are pretty steady and the riser of this bow looks fine as well, with stabilizer bushing.

The string stop is another addition that can reduce vibration and noise in your shots. The split limbs of the bow produce good kinetic energy for shooting speed of 265 fps.

Who should buy it?

Again, this bow is a good choice for beginners who are looking for their first compound bows, especially kids, women or men with smaller frames.

Who shouldn’t buy it?

This is not the right kind of compound bow if you have a taller frame or large hands. This is also not a good investment for people who have years of experience in bowhunting.

Pros

  • Improved silencing features
  • Reduces vibrations
  • Better grip
  • More draw weight options

Cons

  • Only 2 finish options available

Final thoughts

The Bear Apprentice 3 is a good improvement from its predecessor with a few critical changes. The Apprentice 3 will certainly help you to improve your skills, aim and stealth.
